Shinjuku impromptu band

Even though the music usually isn't great, I wish people in the US would do this more often.

Goodbye

Thanks for reading! I don't think I'll be posting much in the next two weeks because I am busy finishing up my internship and getting ready for the next school year. It's been a great, educational summer and I am carrying back some great memories from Tokyo. I hope to post a few more pictures in the future when things settle down, but not right now.

tea 2.0

LAST WEEKEND I returned to my favorite tea shop, Uogashi Meicha Ginza, featured in a previous post. Meicha Ginza has three floors and I tried the third floor for the first time. Turned out to be really modern, with a transparent vinyl roofing that pattered with raindrops. A perfect place for drinking a few cups of matcha.

The five or six other customers were mostly middle-aged women and their friends out shopping. Being male, white, and under 50 didn't faze me however. I love tea. I also finally snapped a photo of the tea preparation. Here our server is carefully mixing the matcha powder with warm water. The preparation itself is so heavily stylized I want to call it dance - every dish must be turned just so, the brush must be held at a ninety degree angle, etc.
