an excursion into udon

This simple udon noodle soup was my first home cooked meal in Japan. My culinary skills are pretty much nonexistent (cup noodles and cold cereal), but I've recently discovered that I enjoy cooking things and plan to take advantage of the exciting Japanese seafood and produce during my stay here.

My son would be envious. He's 23 and has wanted a rice cooker for years. My kitchen is too small for all kinds of gadgetry. My son, Eric is studying Japanese in a local junior college here and hopes someday to travel to Japan!
God Bless you for your work there Peter! May He keep you strong!!

Hi Peter,
Thanks for the email. Glad to hear you're doing well. It was interesting to see pictures of Japan. The vending machines remind me of Germany. They were everywhere when we visited there a few years ago.
